Cinque Terre › Vernazza
Vernazza is probably the most popular and famous of the five villages due to its location and extent – at the end the port opens onto a small peninsula and thus makes way for a beautiful piazza. Vernazza can be found on many national travel guides as the epitome of picturesque destinations on the Ligurian coast – and rightly so! The old castle towers, partly even accessible or accessible through a bar, contribute just as much as the mentioned piazza directly at the harbor, where you can comfortably take in the hustle and bustle with an espresso, an Aperol or an ice cream. Many restaurants also take advantage of this space, so that everything from fish, mussels, octopus to pasta and pizza is offered.
Of course, this notoriety has a small downside – if possible, do not visit Vernazza on weekends, because it is really very crowded. This changes abruptly in the early evening (a morning visit is also worthwhile!), but around lunchtime you are definitely not alone…
If you have the opportunity to come during the week or at the end of the day, then Vernazza is a MUST! No other town is more photogenic, if you sit at the harbor round and let your legs dangle, then you don’t want to leave here and take beautiful impressions home with you.
The square is surrounded by restaurants, if you do not necessarily like lunch, it is more advisable to buy focaccia in one of the bakeries on the main street and get a cool drink from one of the bars – then just sit on one of the rocks or the harbor and enjoy.
Not far from the harbour is the church of S. Margherita, built in 1318 and with its 40 meter high bell tower an impressive building – closely surrounded by the colorful little houses.
