The Schneebergbahn – completely relaxed on the highest mountain in Lower Austria!
From 27 April to 17 November, the Salamander train takes you daily to the Hochschneeberg mountain station at 1,800 metres above sea level in just 40 minutes. In the summer months, the nostalgic steam train also makes its way leisurely every second Sunday – as in Emperor Franz Joseph’s time.
Once at the top, the Hochschneeberg mountain area invites you to linger and discover with cosy rest areas, plenty of seating and the spacious adventure playground. The intact beauty of nature, the Empress Elisabeth Church, the marked hiking trails and, above all, the unique panoramic views of the surrounding mountains are inspiring. Of course, excellent cuisine is not neglected on the Schneeberg, the cosy huts entice you with regional delicacies. Travelharry tip: be sure to try the famous Schneebergbuchteln at the Baumgartner station! So book your ticket in good time and off you go to the mountain experience!
Travelharry Tip 2: Alpine Sunrise – Top offer for early risers Drive up to the highest mountain in Lower Austria before dawn and enjoy the breathtaking sunrise. It starts at 4.00 a.m.! Afterwards, you can take the salamander train or walk down the valley to Baumgartner station, where a fortifying mountain breakfast rounds off the experience.
