Enoteca at the cathedral

The Enoteca Alessi is located in the heart of the historic centre of Florence, a stone’s throw from the cathedral. Since its opening in 1952, it has been run by the Alessi family. The Enoteca offers a wide selection of the best Italian wines, spirits and a variety of delicacies.

In the tasting area you can enjoy tasty snacks as well as lunches of delicious salads, bruschetta with vegetables or the famous Alessi’s Taglieri with cured meats and cheeses, all made in Tuscany. This is also where the wine tastings take place, which are served with bruschetta with oil. The explanations include the production of the wines tasted, as well as general explanations of the wine tradition of the area.

The peculiarity of the Enoteca Alessi is also that many objects that can be found in the shop are made by Massimo and Antonella themselves! Real works of art: from the tables where tastings take place, to the chairs (made of barrels), to the stools and cutting boards, made of acacia, cherry and olive woods.

Tuscany also has a historical tradition in the production of wine vinegar and in the Enoteca Alessi you can find fine wine vinegars made from Sangiovese grapes or from mixtures of primary vines. Some of these also come from manufacturers who are better known for their great Chianti classics, some of them from controlled organic cultivation.

One room is dedicated to refined delicacies, such as truffles, spices for pasta and croutons, in oil, in vinegar, mustard for cheese and sauces. In the chilled part there are delicious Tuscan cured meats and cheeses.

Travelharry-Tip: The Enoteca Alessi is definitely worth a visit. It’s a place where you can “find the things others don’t have.”
